Some people commented that the cross hatching was pretty high quality. I must concur with that assesment. It really gives this realistic dimension and a subtle sense of movement. The subject itself also seems pretty facinating. The movement of a simple action (lighting a cigarette) is highly theatrical and dramatized. This underscores the unspoken underlying truth that the center of this dramatization and theatrical movement is the subject himself, the mind of the person that is acting. As such, the nature of this work draws me in and makes me want to meet this person. He seems remarkably vulnerable in his pose that is half, "I'm trying to be sexy and cool while giving off this air of nonchalant detachment" and half "I wish someone knew the real me and would really look into my eyes when I finally raise them from this pose."
Absolutely fantastic piece.
